Global Magazine named best Internet Bank in Asia

HSBC Bank Malaysia Bhd was named Best Corporate/Institutional Internet Bank in Malaysia by Global Finance magazine in its World’s Best Internet Banks in Asia 2007 competition. HSBC Malaysia’s managing director, commercial banking, Eddie Norton, said the award was a recognition of HSBC’s continuous effort to be the most preferred bank in Malaysia.

“We are committed to fulfil our corporate clients’ tailored needs and requirements by continuously providing innovative solutions and improvements with regard to our Internet banking service by leveraging on our vast expertise and experience,” he said in a statement Tuesday.

Norton said one of the bank’s online strategies in attracting and retaining corporate customers was by giving them more comprehensive Internet banking solutions with easy accessibility, wider range of banking services as well as security.

HSBC Malaysia offers two different platforms of Internet banking to its corporate customers, with Business Internet Banking (BIB) targeted at small and medium enterprise customers, and HSBCnet, a global platform for multinational corporation and middle market enterprise customers. The number of customers who signed up for BIB has increased by almost three-fold from 2004 to 2006, according to the bank.

HSBCnet-Internet Trade Services customer base has also experienced a healthy growth over the years, it added. Global Finance said winning banks were selected based on criteria such as strength of strategy for attracting and servicing online customers, success in getting clients to use web offerings, growth of online customers, breadth of product offerings, evidence of tangible benefits gained from Internet initiatives, and website design and functionality.
